Alasept - First solution with ISO certification
Alasept — First solution with ISO Certificate
Alasept, which is the highly effective antibacterial surface for fittings by Häfele now is the first - and only - tested and certified comparable solution on the market according to the international standard ISO 22196: The certification by the independent testing institute Hohenstein Laboratories GmbH & Co. KG, Bönnigheim was already completed on 23rd March 2011 after extensive studies with the test germ Staphylococcus aureus MRSA ATCC 33592. These resulted in an anti-bacterial effectiveness of the surface area of more than 99.999% after the normative specified 24 hours. Additional observations on the destruction kinetics showed efficiency of more than 99.94% already after one hour. This value is very close to a surface disinfectant.
In addition, a basic test also supports the effectiveness of the Alasept surface against viruses. Based on ISO 22196:2007, a test authorized and approved by the "Central Authority of the Länder for Health Protection with regard to Medicinal Products and Medical Devices (ZLG)" for the anti-viral activity of the Alasept surface is currently being conducted. Standard ISO 22196:2007-10 was originally developed for plastics and fibers in the medical field, however, is also appliable for building materials and metals. It is based on the global standards-setting Japanese standard JIS Z 2801.
Alasept is an invisible special surface based on copper, as it is also used in high-quality medical implants. In contrast to anti-adhesive surfaces, the copper-containing coating is both antimicrobial and anti-viral. It therefore not only prevents the adherence of germs, but also their proliferation. This opens completely new possibilities, particularly in regard to the prevention of infections caused by MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). In addition, Alasept can also inhibit the spread of viruses - such as HIV and noroviruses - within the hospital environment.
A variety of stainless steel fittings, such as lever handles, hinges, etc. can be improved by the patented coating process. This product diversity allows universal hygiene concepts that can be implemented by hygiene officials and planners in hospitals and practices by using the new solution.
