Successful lab test for antibacterial fittings
New prospects for hygiene concepts

On the path to developing an effective antibacterial coating for fittings, Häfele and Dot GmbH – a company specialising in coating technology for medical implants and instruments – have successfully completed a lab test. The test showed that the newly-developed prototypes make a significant contribution to germ reduction.

The coating developed by Dot is a special copper-based finish. In contrast to anti adhesive nano sur-faces, the cupriferous coating is genuinely antimicrobial. It not only prevents the adhesion of bacteria, it kills them as well. A wide range of fittings such as door handles and hinges can be finished by this method. This product diversity permits integral hygiene concepts which can be implemented by hygiene representatives and planners in clinics and medical practices using the new solution. New prospects are opened up, in particular, with a view to preventing infections by MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus).
